Finding the right words for a funeral of a friend

February 01, 2013  •  Leave a Comment

Yesterday I gave a eulogy for a good friend Stephen Black…

But what words can express the sadness with which we face?

I know the staff Scotrail, Network Rail and British Transport police will miss his support, care and compassion as well as his advice in times of difficulty, but what words can I bring of any meaning? I have tried to think something, but there are those who will be at the funeral who knew Stevie far better than I ever did. People, who grew up with him, lived with him, laughed and cried with him. What can I say that is of any importance compared to those whose lives were truly touched by his? What can I say that matters?

But that is it; that is what I have to say; Stevie lived his life for the things that matter.

He was an example: He understood what mattered and lived his life in such a way that he would make the biggest difference in the lives of others.
He never talked about the things he should do, he just did them and there are people whose lives are better because of him and the way he lived his life.
He had the courage to make a difference and the wisdom to know how. Stevie knew that Eternity was not a distant and incompressible event but that Eternity starts here with the things that matter.

My first wedding photography was when I was 17 years of age. Both the equipment has change over time as has my style and ability. Photography has been a passion for over 30 years. In fact probably over 40 years, but 30 since I purchased my first SLR Camera. It was a Richo XR7 and at the time it was a top of the rage camera. Now I shoot with the Canon 5D Mk ii.
